Paul Selden

Paul John Selden, 83, of Broomfield, Colorado passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, May 25th at 2:30 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado. There will also be a visitation at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island, Nebraska on Wednesday, May 26th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at the North Logan Cemetery north of St. Paul, NE on Thursday, May 27th at 10:00 a.m.

Paul and his twin sister Nancy were born in Shelby, NE on April 8, 1938. He graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1956.

 

Paul was united in marriage to Marilyn Rasmussen on September 1, 1956 in Pierre, South Dakota. They resided in Grand Island for one year before Paul was called into active duty in the Naval Air Reserve. He served on the U.S.S. Midway from 1957-1959 with an Honorable Discharge. He worked for Harold Schlund at Schlund’s Conoco until Harold’s death in 1967. He then bought the Station and was there until he closed it in 1986. The family moved to the Denver area in 1987. He opened Selden & Sons in Boulder, CO until he retired in 2009. Paul was the Cairo Volunteer Fire Chief for 25+ years and helped form the Cairo Quick Response. He was very active in the surrounding areas mutual aid for fire districts. He was President for both Fire Mutual Aid Districts of Hall and North Loup. He served on the Hall County planning commission including President. He was one of Cairo’s Local Business leaders for over 30 years. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, hunting and camping. He sincerely loved helping any one in need. Paul loved his Country. He served on several boards at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo for 30 years. He was a lay minister for Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada for 16 years.
 

Paul is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters Debbie McLachlan (Broomfield), Trish (Kirk) Brennan (Westminster), two sons, Morris Selden (Broomfield) and John Selden (Wheat Ridge); seven grandchildren, Jason (Brynja) McLachlan, Aaron (Jen) McLachlan, Payton (Natalie) McLachlan, Drew Brennan, Austin Brennan, Emily Selden and Molly Selden and three great-grandchildren, Maddi McLachlan, Chase McLachlan and Blake McLachlan.
 

Paul was welcomed into Heaven by his mother-in-law Emma Rasmussen, son-in-law Jeff McLachlan, brother-in-law Gary Christensen, sister and brother-in-law’s Eline and Robert Gans, brother-in-law Virgil Stonestreet, sister-in-law Rosetta Scranton and parents Chalmar and Dorothy Selden.
 

Memorials are suggested to Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, CO or the Cairo Quick Response team.
