Ronald E. Hansen Sr.- June 5, 1992

 Funeral services were held for Ronald E. Hansen, 74,
Brayton, at 10 a.m. Monday, June 8, at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton
with the Rev. Steven Frock officiating. Interment with military rites was in the North Logan Cemetery in St.Paul, Neb. Mr. Hansen died June 5 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Omaha. Mullen Funeral Home of Atlantic was in charge of the arrangements. 

Pallbearers for Ronald were his grandsons: Sgt. Kenneth E. Hansen, Kevin P. Hilty, Bryan C. Hansen, Corbett P. Carrico, Robert P. Hansen and Brian L. Hilty. Honorary pallbearers were: Glee Christensen, Floyd Schwab, Delbert Anderson, Harvey Larsen, Otis Jensen and Leonard Jensen. 

Music was provided by organist Sue Hoegh and vocalists Manard Hansen and Margaret Parmley. 

The son of Thomas P. and Eva L. Christensen Hansen, he was born Nov. 26, 1917, near Cushing, Neb. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at North Logan in Howard County near Wolbach, Neb. He attended rural school and lived in Nebraska 45 years before moving to Iowa in 1962 in Audubon County. 

He was united in marriage to Gladys V. I. Sonderup March 14, 1939.   During his lifetime, he was a mechanic and welder and had his own shop the last 25 years in Brayton. During World War II he was a mechanic on bomber planes at Glen L. Martin Plant in Omaha and served in the Army Air Corps. 

Surviving are his wife, Gladys of Brayton; seven children; Ron Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Brayton, Maynard and his wife, Janet of Grant, Neb., Sylvia Schmidt and her husband, Alton of Kearney, Neb., Elwood and his wife Jeanie of Casey, Lorraine Leach and her husband, Richard of Kearney, Neb., Lloyd and his wife, Mary of Lincoln, Neb., and Elloise Carrico and her husband, Dennis of Grand Island, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-granddaughter. 

Also survining are two brothers, Rev. Carl T. Hansen and his wife, Ursula of Sun City, Ariz., and LaVern G. Hansen and his wife, Caroll of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Agnetha Pennington of Temple City, Calif. And Rhoda and Ray Christensen of Grand Island, Neb.; nieces and nephews. 

Proceding him in death were his parents and a grandson, Chad E. Hansen.

Gladys V. I. Hansen (Sonderup)

Gladys V. I. Hansen, 95, of Kearney entered into eternal rest on Dec. 8, 2012 at St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday Dec 15 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. The Reverend DeLoach will officiate. Visitation and lunch for family and friends will be held from 11:00 until service time on Saturday. Burial will follow the services at North Logan Cemetery, 10 miles north of St Paul on Highway 281.

Gladys was born on Mar. 19, 1917 to Henry T. and Gertrude (Pedersen) Sonderup at their home in North Logan Township, Howard County, Nebraska.

She was baptized and confirmed at St Peter’s Lutheran Church North Logan Township.

She attended and graduated from Wolbach High School in 1935.

Her marriage to Ronald E. Hansen took place on Mar. 19, 1939 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church North Logan Township, Howard County, Nebraska.

Gladys and Ronald lived in Nebraska until 1962 when they moved to the Exira, Brayton and Atlantic, Iowa area. Gladys returned to Kearney, Nebraska in 2000.

Survivors include her children; Maynard and Janet Hansen of Grant NE, Sylvia and Alton Schmitt of Kearney, NE, Elwood and Jeannie Hansen of Atlantic, IA, Lorraine and Richard Leach of Kearney, NE, Lloyd Hansen of Lincoln, NE, Elloise Hansen of Sacramento, CA and daughter in-law Margaret Hansen of Brayton, IA; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; sisters; Agnetha Pennington of Temple City, CA and Rhoda and Ray Christensen Grand Island, NE; brother in-law, Lavern Hansen of Phoenix, AZ; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; her husband; son, Ronald Jr.; daughter in-law Mary; grandchildren, Chad and Stephanie; great grandchild, Elizabeth; sister and brother in-law Lois and Rev Carl Hansen; a brother in-law James Pennington; and a sister in-law Carol Hansen.
